Some dogs end up as rescue dogs because their owners haven't given the time and patience needed to guide a puppy in to adulthood. One of the basic instincts of any dog is to either lead or be led, and experts say most would rather be led, so it is always important to have the correct knowledge behind you to make sure you do the proper leading. Even an older dog that may not have had the correct guidance and training when younger can still submit to a good leader.
