A dog's sense of smell is about 1000 times better than a person's.

A dog's heart beats between 70 to 120 times a minute, compared with a human heart which beats 70 to 80 times a minute.
The common belief that dogs are colour blind is false. Dogs can see colour but it is not as vivid a colour scheme as we see. It is much like our vision at twilight.
The oldest dog that has been reliably documented was an Australian cattle-dog named Bluey. He was put to sleep at the age of 29 years and 5 months!
I bet you didn't know that two dogs survived the sinking of the Titanic
Most people know that a puppy is born blind and toothless but did you know they are born deaf. They begin to see at 2-3 weeks, get milk teeth at 3-7 weeks and after a few weeks start to develop their hearing.
Dogs have 42 teeth.
Do dogs dream? If you look at your dog while it's sleeping, sometimes you'll see its eyes move and twitch under its eyelids. Humans do this too, and we definitely dream. So researchers are almost positive that dogs have dreams too.
Dogs hearing is a lot better than ours. They hear high-pitched sounds (like some insects make), that we cannot even detect.
Stroking a dog on a regular basis is said to help you reduce stress levels, tension and reduces blood pressure, and the dog loves it too.
The Poodle's "haircut" was to improve their swimming abilities. The pom-poms were left to keep their joints warm !
Dogs have a visual range of 250 degrees compared to the human range of 180 degrees.
Greyfriars Bobby was a famous Skye Terrier immortalised in the Disney movie of the same name. In 1858 a man named John Gray (Old Jock) was buried in old Greyfriars Churchyard, in Edinburgh. This loyal dog slept on his master's grave for the next 14 years until his own death. A statue commemorates this most loyal of dogs.
Each year on April 8th at a ceremony in Tokyo's Shibuya railway station dog lovers do homage to the loyalty and devotion of an Akita dog called Hachiko. Hachiko was the loyal and faithful pet of Dr. Eisaburo Ueno, a professor at Tokyo University. On May 21st 1925, when Hachiko was eighteen months old Dr Ueno died. The next day and for the next nine years, Hachiko returned to the station and waited for his master before walking home, alone
Poisoning of dogs by chocolate is not as uncommon as you might think. Chocolate contains theobromine, found in cocoa beans. While amounts vary by type of chocolate, it's in all human chocolate and it's the theobromine that is poisonous to dogs. It's true that the odd bit of chocolate will probably not cause any toxic reaction but there are variables to consider like the individual sensitivity, dog size and chocolate (theobromine) concentration. What happens if your dog steels all that chocolate on or under your christmas tree...well your dog will get a toxic reaction from the poison it has eaten so you should contact your vet straightaway. The point is you don't leave bottles of medication within reach of children and you shouldn't leave amounts of chocolate within reach of your dog. Just type something like "Chocolate Toxicity" in any search engine to find out the facts and some sad truths.

Dunroamin K9 Rescue Re-homing
Bill and Ben went to a home but unfortunately due to no fault of their own they are back in our care. These two boys are lovely dogs, they really are and they will make someone perfect pets. They are inseparable, love and need each other to a degree that they can only be re homed together. You might not want two dogs but if you know someone that does please mention Bill and Ben at Dunroamin K9 Rescue.
Henry
Henry is a German Shepherd Cross, male, approximately 6-8 years old. He has a red on black coloured long coat which he loves being groomed. He is medium sized (but overweight). Henry is a loving and friendly boy who will shake a paw. He is a pleasure to take out for a walk and he is fine with other dogs. He has recently had a full groom and he looks absolutely gorgeous.
Josh
My name is Josh and I'm a bit of an original cross breed, age 3 years. I love people, but am not too keen on other dogs, or cats. I have been in kennels now since August 2009 waiting for my forever home but no one has come along for me yet, I keep my paws crossed, it can't be long now surely. All I want is a nice warm bed, a couple of walks a day, some good food and lots of cuddles, I'll be a good lad, and I don't take up much room, honest! Ring my carers and come along and meet me, I sooo deserve a chance!!
Barney is now at home. His 'At Home and Happy' pictures will soon appear on our
New Beginnings page.
This little chap is baby Barney.
He is a Mastiff Cross boy about 10 weeks young. He is brindle and white in colour; a big baby with big white feet and lots of loose skin to grow into! Baby Barney is very friendly, confident and playful... and after he's had his playtime he loves his bed.
Star is a cross breed girl of around 4 years old. Star came in to our care via the Dog Warden after her owners tied her to a field gate and 'forgot to go back for her', thank goodness a kind member of the public found her and got her to safety, the poor girl was wearing a harness that was far too small for her and had cut in to her body. Star is very thin at the moment and is being fed 4 small meals a day to build her up. She is a lovely girl, very obedient and loving and still so trusting even after this awful experience, she really deserves a loving forever home where she can feel secure and know that no one will ever hurt her again.
Just so you know we make every effort to put the right dog with the owner and as importantly the right owner with the dog. Based on our assessment of a dog and your life style etc we always try to make sure you will be happy with your new dog and your new dog will be happy living with his/her new family. If things go wrong we are here to help and advise for the lifetime of the dog and if a situation occurs where you can not look after the dog any more we will always take the dog back into our care. In fact this is a condition in the adoption contract. Thankfully this doesn't happen very often at all but when you adopt a dog from Dunroamin K9 Rescue you have our help, support and advice for the lifetime of your new family member.
Scooby is a big 18 month old Black Labrador. He's a nice friendly young boy and is good with other dogs, especially a young very playful yellow labrador boy he recently spent the day with. They both had great fun and so did we. Scooby is basically a lovely black Lab who needs to find his loving forever home....just like all the others!
Chas is a male greyhound of approximately 1 year old. His previous owners took him out for a ride in the car during the heavy snow and abondoned him in a rural village, luckily for Chas a kind gentleman who witnessed this incident, took him in and cared for him for several days until the Dog Warden could collect him. Chas is a very well mannered young dog who will sit and give a paw, not a normal trait for a Greyhound! He is also very good on the lead. Don't forget it's a myth that Greyhounds need a lot of exercise, they are happy with a couple of 20 minute walks a day, and make very loving faithfull pets.
We have three new arrivals looking for their loving forever homes

Misty Update 8/04/09
Misty is doing really well in her foster home and is slowly learning to trust. She loves the company of other dogs and because of the confidence she gets from being around other loved dogs we would only re-home Misty in a doggie household. Update pictures very soon.
